Latest: Kommerling 58mm PVCu Window
Sadly after many years of being one of the best window systems in the market, Kommerling are discontinuing their 58mm slim PVCu window system by the end of this year.
Whilst it achieves an A Energy Rating, currently the highest rating available, it will not be able to meet the ever increasing energy requirements expected over the next decade.
We would therefore like to remind our customers that if they require any Kommerling 58mm windows to match their existing windows then they need to be ordered by the end of September.
We are replacing this range of windows with the Liniar NRG PVCu window range which, whilst maintaining the excellent profile quality, is a completely new window offering improved Thermal Efficiency, Weather Performance and Security. This window range can easily meet all current energy requirements and will also meet those envisaged over the coming decade and beyond.

Tuesday 13/07/2010 - Another Thank you Letter
We have just received the following email for an installation we carried out last Friday 9th July:

A few years ago your company installed three windows in my house and I was very impressed with the standard of workmanship.

It was because of this that I had no hesitation in contacting your company when later I required four more windows.

On what proved to be one of the hottest days of the year your fitter arrived to tackle the job and I should like to express my gratitude for the work he did in a speedy and professional manner; he was both pleasant and obliging, finding time to refit our bathroom blind and doing a perfect job on a very hot day.

Please pass on my thanks to your fitter from both myself and my wife.

Yours sincerely,
Saturday 26/06/2010 - Thank you letters
We have just received the following:

23rd June.

Installation 14th - 18th June 2010

We recently had all our windows replaced by your company. We would like to let you know how pleased my husband and myself are with the finished product.

From day one to finish, your workmen have been considerate, polite, clean and tidy and respectful of our property. The overall finish to the windows is first class and we wanted to let you know what an excellent job your men carried out on the property.

Once again, many thanks and to let you know that we will be recommending your company to family and friends.
Saturday 19/06/2010 - Bi-fold Doors
Bi-fold doors in both aluminium and PVCu are becoming very popular.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the new Liniar PVCu bifold door, designed from scratch to function beautifully and look great.
Liniar’s bi-fold door is unique and incorporates many ground-breaking design features making it far superior to other PVC-U bi-fold doors.

Features include:
Concealed hardware – a stainless steel track is mounted in-board so only the hinge knuckles are visible when the door is closed.
Wheelchair friendly low threshold options will be available, allowing easier access into the property, or even within the same room.
Slimmer sight-lines and sealed co extruded interlocks on panel-to-panel joints.
Fully sculptured frames so the bi-fold door has a better overall look and matches the windows and doors.
The bi-fold door is available in a choice of white, cream or foil finishes with white, brass or chrome finish hardware.
Sunday 13/06/2010 - Thank you
It is always nice when our customers say thank you, especially in writing, and we post a thank you email we have just received below:

Very pleased with the final result- great job.. we can't wait to do the rest of the house!
Many thanks for all your help
Kind regards
Friday 04/06/2010 - Not all A rated windows are the same!
Most PVCu windows can achieve an A Energy Rating today, but they rely on solar heat gain to achieve this, which is fine on a south facing window, although it may get a bit too hot in summer, but not much use on the north side of your house where there is no direct sunlight!

Our new Liniar NRG windows are so much more thermally efficient that they achieve an A rating without needing to use solar heat to qualify, so you get the benefit of a genuine A rating irrespective of which direction your windows face.
Tuesday 01/06/2010 - PVCu Sliding Sash Windows
We at SCI have been installing PVCu Sliding Sash Windows for nearly 20 years.
We primarily install the Rehau PVCu sliding sash window and this looks virtually indistinguishable from original timber windows once installed, especially as we use softwood liners and architraves internally to replicate the original detailing.
Friday 28/05/2010 - Kommerling 58mm PVCu window
Kommerling have announced that their 58mm slim PVCu window system is being discontinued by the end of this year.
We would therefore like to remind our customers that if they require any Kommerling 58mm windows to match their existing windows that time is running out to order them.
We are replacing this range of windows with the Liniar NRG PVCu window range which, whilst maintaining the excellent profile quality, is a completely new window offering improved Thermal Efficiency, Weather Performance and Security.
Thursday 20/05/2010 - Liniar Lead Free PVCu windows and doors
One of the major developments in recent times must be Lead Free PVCu. Lead Free petrol was launched to reduce pollution, everyone who buys petrol now buys lead free because its the right thing to do, but sadly too many windows are still made with lead stabilised PVCu.

We can now offer the latest Liniar range of lead free NRG windows and doors, offering improved Thermal Efficiency, Weather Performance and Security.

The Liniar NRG range has been designed from scratch to incorporate the latest advances in window and door technology offering tomorrows window today.

We will be phasing out our old systems this year which have served us well for the last 15 years but sadly cannot come near to the performance of the new Liniar NRG range.
Saturday 15/05/2010 - VAT rising to 20%?
It seems very likely that VAT will rise to 20% this summer so what better time to replace your old windows and doors for new energy saving ones.
Place your order before any VAT increase comes into effect and we undertake not to pass on any increase in duty.
This way you save twice, firstly on the VAT and secondly on reduced fuel bills next winter!
Friday 30/04/2010 - Bank Holiday Weekend
The spell of fine weather we have been enjoying is due to come to an end just as the Bank Holiday weekend starts.
But it is the perfect time to think about improving your home by installing the latest energy efficient windows and doors.
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new NRG range of PVCu windows and doors. Extruded for us by Liniar in Derbyshire, we can now offer one of the highest energy rated windows currently on the market, reducing your heating bills and making your home more comfortable.
We are open Bank Holiday Saturday from 9.30am to 1.00pm and can be contacted outside these hours on 020 8648 0426 where if you leave a message we will telephone you back.
Friday 09/04/2010 - Has Spring Actually Arrived At Last

So when you are out in your garden this weekend enjoying the first taste of spring, look at your windows and then give us a ring.

Tuesday 16/03/2010 - Cheltenham Festival
The Cheltenham Festival, National Hunt's showpiece horse race meeting, starts today and promises to be one of the best ever.
Cheltenham is taken over by the Irish for 4 days and with good weather and conditions forecast, it should be a great week.
On other sporting fronts, England have just laboured to win the 1st cricket test in Bangladesh, although Graeme Swann did get his first 10 wicket haul in a test match.
Wednesday 10/03/2010 - Spring running late this year
I hear that spring is running a month late this year because of the cold winter we have had. Nearly as bad as our trains and buses! But there are few daffodils out and Mothers Day is this Sunday so no doubt those for sale will cost more than usual.
Monday 01/03/2010 - March 1st
March 1st should mean that winter is almost behind us and that spring is on the way..........

It also heralds the time when people traditionally start venturing outside and thinking about home improvements.

This Spring promises to be even more exciting than usual with new Energy Rated windows and other products coming onto the market.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing how we can help you to become even more energy efficient.
Monday 22/02/2010 - Olympic Gold
Congratulations to Amy Williams for winning our first individual gold in a Winter Olympics, in the Skeleton, for 30 years, an amazing feat, especially when you hear she only took up the sport 8 years ago having tried the dry start at Bath. Having watched the race on televison how many people would want to go down that ice track head first!

Congratulations also to Bode Miller who has so far one 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze in the skiing events, putting him high up amongst the all time greats of alpine skiing.
Tuesday 16/02/2010 - Discounts
At a time when the country is struggling to get out of the recession we are all too aware of the need to be very competitive and keen on prices.

Many of our competitors offer 40% off, a £2,000 window scrappage allowance, and other such ‘deals’.

These can be so misleading as all these offers depend on different starting prices.

We pride ourselves in giving a competitive price immediately. We are so confident of this that if you can find a product and service of equal quality then we will match the price.

You will not buy better for less!
Friday 12/02/2010 - Lead Free PVCu
All our PVCu casement windows and doors are manufactured from lead free profile.

Lead is a heavy metal which has already been removed from most everyday materials such as paint and petrol and the PVCu window industry made a voluntary commitment to the E U Environment Commission to eliminate the use of lead stabilisers from PVCu extrusions by 2010, replacing them with calcium-zinc.

There are very few PVCu systems avalable in the UK that have made this move as it is expensise and complicated, and we are proud to be one of the few offering lead free PVCu profile.
Friday 05/02/2010 - Window Scrappage Scheme
Following our last post, we are receiving lots of enquiries asking whether we are offering the scrappage scheme.
For the avoidance of doubt, there is NO official scrappage scheme yet in operation. At the moment there is just a petition on the No 10 web site asking the Government to implement one.
The various scrappage offers in the market are simply marketing ideas and / or discounts off an inflated price!
We just offer a realistic and honest quotation straight away.
Tuesday 02/02/2010 - Scrappage Scheme

The Glass & Glazing Federation have petitioned the government to introduce a window scrappage scheme. Similar to the scheme introduced for cars in 2009, this proposal would give householders a £1000 grant towards installing new energy efficient double glazing in return for scrapping their old poorly insulated windows.

Energy rated windows are the latest innovation in double glazing technology & can vastly improve the energy efficiency of your home. The rating system utilises a sliding scale from G-A with A being most efficient. At SCI, we install a C rated window as standard but also offer B & A rated windows. SCI are proud to be Energy Saving Recommended.

Government grants for various types of insulation already exist & as installing energy efficient windows can cut heat loss through windows in half (energysavingtrust.org), it is only logical that this type of grant be available to householders.

The petition can be found at;

Saturday 30/01/2010 - January 2010
As January 2010 comes to an end we look back at what has been an interesting month.
In England we have had:
difficult weather conditions which have affected everyone and still does with ice causing 2 Motorways to be closed this morning and others badly disrupted,
the couuntry officially just clawing itself out of recession,
the Iraq War Inquiry dominating headlines,
the looming election.
February will probably herald more of the same plus who knows what! We will know in a months time anyway!
